The Reno Rotary Foundation
The Reno Rotary Foundation was formally established as a 501 (c) (3) corporation on July 14, 1992, to provide a way for the Club to accumulate funds to support worthy cultural, social, environmental, charitable or civic activities. Prior to 1992 funds had been raised by the Club for the same purposes, however gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible under the income tax codes. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided grants and donations amounting to over $165,000.
Activities which have been supported by the Foundation have included scholarships, fellowships, exchange students, international exchanges, Washoe Medical Center Oncology Protocol, Small Business Employer Drug Abuse Recognition Program, D.A.R.E. and the Adolescent Care and Treatment Center.
The Foundation raises funds through a variety of methods including fund-raisers such as the International Food, Wine Tasting and Auction, fines at the weekly Rotary meetings, garage sales and other more informal events.
Even with these superb efforts, the dollars needed for worthy activities outpace the resources of the Foundation. Consequently, the Foundation continues to seek and accept large gifts.
